84 Lumber to Cut 40 Positions

84 Lumber Co. has announced it will be terminating and eliminating approximately 40 positions at the corporate level. The Eighty Four, Pa.-based materials and services provider is attributing these cuts to a “continued slump” in the housing market.

“In total we eliminated approximately 40 positions, some of which were unfilled,” Jeff Nobers, the company’s vice president of marketing and public relations told Shelter.  “The number of people affected is roughly 26, though, a good number of these are being offered other positions within the company, in other departments. As of this moment all of those people have not made a final determination, so we do not have a ‘final’ count.”

Nobers says cuts are primarily being made in the company’s human resources and development departments.
