CertainTeed Employee Wins 2005 Saint-Gobain Volunteer Recognition Award

CertainTeed Corp employee Louis Daniel, of the company's Oxford, N.C., roofing production plant, has been named as a recipient of the 2005 Volunteer Recognition Award from CertainTeed's parent company, Saint-Gobain Corp.

The award encourages volunteerism and recognizes employees and retirees of Saint-Gobain for volunteerism. While extending recognition to employees, the award also includes a $1,000 contribution to each of the organizations they serve.

"We believe it's important to recognize our employees' generous contributions to their communities," says John Donaldson, president of CertainTeed's Roofing Group. "Louis' devotion to helping others demonstrates outstanding public service and sets a great example for all of us."

A cutter operator at the Oxford plant since 1989, Daniel is a resident of Stovall, N.C. He won the award for his eight years with the Stovall Volunteer Fire Department, where he is currently department chief.

"It's a feeling you can't describe until you've actually worked at a fire scene," Daniel says. "I love what I do. When you see that look on some people's faces when they're about to lose everything, it feels great to know that you're helping them."

Adds Jason Tinjen, assistant fire chief, "Louis exemplifies what it is to be a volunteer firefighter. He is always diligent in his duties and pays meticulous attention to detail. We could not carry out our public safety and service functions without his level of dedication."

Saint-Gobain Corporation's Volunteer Recognition Award is open to all U.S. and Canadian employees and retirees of the company. In 2005, there are five employee winners and one retiree winner from approximately 70 nominations.
