Two of Timber Products’ Plywood Mills Earn FSC Certification
Timber Products Company recently announced its Grants Pass, Ore., and Corinth, Miss., hardwood plywood mills have been granted Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. Both mills earned FSC Mixed Sources Chain of Custody certification, allowing the Springfield, Ore.-based manufacturer to produce and sell its GreenT™ hardwood plywood panels under the organization’s authorization stamp.
“The FSC label gives our customers another avenue to gain LEED points and shows our support to sustainable wood sources around the world,” says Timber Products vice president Roger Rutan. “We’ve been longtime supporters of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and our additional commitment to FSC proves we are doing everything we can to meet the market’s demand for sustainable materials.”
Timber Products says the Grants Pass facility is one of few sites in the United States that is authorized to manufacture products certified by both FSC Mixed Source and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI®). Customers looking for hardwood plywood that meets green building standards or indoor air quality regulations can order GreenT™ panels from the Grants Pass mill with either the FSC Mixed Sources or SFI stamp of approval.
Earlier this year, the company’s Medford, Ore., particleboard plant achieved Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) status from the Composite Panel Association (CPA), and its hardwood plywood and particleboard mills garnered recognition by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association’s (KCMA) Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP). Its recently introduced GreenT™ line of hardwood panels are manufactured with certified wood fiber and a special resin that meets most green building requirements, including LEED® and California Air Resources Board formaldehyde regulations. The company also stewards 118,000 acres of forest under the strict standards of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative program and says it was the first hardwood plywood manufacturer in the world to carry the SFI label.
