The Collins Companies Celebrates 150 Years of Operation The Collins Companies marked 150 years as a family-owned forest products business in July of 2005. In honor of the occasion, a four-day celebration was held at Kane Hardwood in Kane, Pa., not far from the site where Truman "Teddy" Collins began to build what was widely known as the "Teddy Collins Empire" in 1855. Today The Collins Companies oversees sawmills, forests, and manufacturing facilities at Kane Hardwood in Kane, Pa.; Fremont Sawmill in Lakeview, Ore.; Collins Products in Klamath Falls, Ore.; Collins Pine Company in Chester, Calif.; Builders Supply in Chester, Chico, Oroville, and Paradise, Calif.; and the newly purchased hardwood mill in Richwood, W.Va. Collins became the first privately-owned forest products company in the U.S. to be independently certified under the strict guidelines of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Collins' Klamath Falls plants have produced the first FSC-certified particleboard in the U.S. and the first FSC-certified engineered siding in the world. | |
