Fypon® Gets a Sweet Tooth

Fypon® says it is busy this holiday season, creating 750 candy canes out of PVC board sheets. The giant candy canes will help decorate a 60-foot tall Christmas tree to stand outside the U.S. Capitol. The Archbold, Ohio-based urethane millwork and PVC trim manufacturer says each of its candy canes is 12 inches tall and routed to have soft, rounded edges. Each will be decorated by children in Vermont and added to the tree as a contribution from their home state.

“We’re honored to play a sponsorship role in this special event by supplying the candy canes,” says Tom Riscili, president of Fypon. “The organizers in Bennington, Vt., needed durable, weather-resistant products and our PVC fits this request perfectly.”

The five-story tall balsam fir tree, plus 80 companion trees, began its travel in a six-day, six-state goodwill tour from Vermont to Washington, D.C., recently. Along the way, the 22 trucks in the caravan will stop at various veterans’ hospitals, malls and downtown areas to spread holiday cheer. Many of the 80 trees will be delivered to veterans’ hospitals, Congressional Offices, the Supreme Court and various other government offices. Once in Washington, the 60-foot tall Vermont tree will be decorated with 3,500 ornaments that have been collected and decorated by the people of Vermont. A tree-lighting ceremony will take place in early December.

“Fypon’s contribution to this program is very much appreciated,” explains Joann Erenhouse, executive director of the Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce in Vermont. “We’ve been fortunate to have many wonderful companies, like Fypon, step up with product donations to support our theme of ‘Bringing an Old-Fashioned Holiday to the Nation.’ The children of Vermont are eagerly looking forward to decorating the candy canes and seeing them adorn the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree.”
