Computer Associates Enhances Software

Computer Associates (CAI), headquartered in Smithfield, R.I., has enhanced its warehouse management system for the building materials and millwork industry. The solution, called the Ponderosa Warehouse Management System (WMS), uses high-performance laser bar code scanning technology and wireless handheld scanners to dramatically improve accuracy, control and productivity in all facets of warehousing operations-and significantly enhance customer satisfaction.

CAI will demonstrate Ponderosa and the enhanced warehouse management system in Booth 1418 at the Association of Millwork Distributors (AMD) 41st Annual Convention, October 9-13 in Salt Lake City.

Designed specifically for building material distributors, millwork jobbers, lumber wholesalers and door and window manufacturers, the new warehouse management software leverages affordable, high-performance wireless laser bar-code scanners to provide real-time capture and sharing of inventory information at the receiving dock, and then immediately use this data to optimize all aspects of the enterprise, including receiving, tracking, material movement and transfers, forward pick replenishment, picking for sales orders, truck loading and routing, physical inventory, cycle counts and employee utilization.

The Ponderosa WMS solution supports a wide variety of wireless handheld scanners to read bar-code data on incoming and outgoing shipments, capture the data and automatically route it to other key business areas that require real-time inventory data.
