Temple-Inland Upgrades Facility

Process improvements, totaling $8 million, at Temple-Inland’s Hope, Ark., particleboard facility is really paying off for its customers.

Process improvements made at the facility include a new mechanical forming machine and innovative press modifications.

“We’re truly excited about what these upgrades can do for our customers,” says Bryan Wilson, composite panel sales/marketing manager. “Not only have we reduced our overall material densities … we’ve also significantly tightened our in-panel density and thickness variations by as much as 50 percent and added flexibility to our press. This means lower panel weights, lower freight costs, more material per load and easier handling, as well as consistently smoother and cleaner machining.”

The press size at the Hope facility is 9 feet by 25 feet, producing particleboard panels in both 49- and 61-inch widths, with lengths ranging from 73- to 169-inches. Thicknesses range from ¼- to 1 1/8-inches.
