Temple-Inland® Receives One-Hour Fire Rating

Diboll, Texas-based Temple-Inland® announced that its FiberBrace® structural sheathing is now approved by Underwriters Laboratories as a wall assembly component for multi-family and commercial wall systems requiring a one-hour fire rating.

The company says that during a recent ASTM E119 test, a full-scale wall section constructed in accordance with UL assembly U356 and using FiberBrace as the exterior sheathing, successfully passed the one-hour test. It also says a second wall, constructed using a screwed, horizontal application of its interior gypsum wallboard and FiberBrace exterior sheathing, also passed the one-hour fire test.

Temple-Inland says these results will be the first UL-approval of this fire-rated assembly using a fiberboard structural sheathing product and will be added to UL assembly U356 specifications. It also says this is the first version approved with horizontally applied gypsum wallboard on the interior side, where other sheathings are specified as 4-foot by 8-foot sheets and require horizontal blocking on all seams.
