Therma-Tru Helps Soldier's Family

Therma-Tru Doors of Maumee, Ohio, has provided a brand new Smooth-Star® fiberglass entry door to a Highlands, N.J., family while the husband serves in Iraq. The door was presented at the request of Tom Kraeutler, host of the popular "The Money Pit" home improvement radio show, who also installed it himself.

Major David and Caryn Hargrave never had the opportunity to build their dream home. A good portion of their 16-year marriage has consisted of David serving the United States while being located overseas: first, Desert Storm, and now, the war in Iraq. When Caryn realized her front door needed to be replaced, she knew there was no budget for home improvements.

Caryn Hargrave's quest for a new door began when she contacted Tom Kraeutler, who then shared the Hargraves' story with Therma-Tru executives.

"We were happy to support 'The Money Pit' with their generous effort of providing the Hargraves with a new entry door system. The fiberglass door stands up to day-to-day traffic without denting, dinging or rusting like regular steel, and it provides the utmost energy-efficiency, weather-resistance, safety and durability," said Hal Gardner, Therma-Tru's vice president of marketing.

David has been in Kuwait since June 2003, visiting home only once for six weeks and communicating mostly through instant messaging technology. David saw their new townhouse, which Caryn had moved into almost a year ago, for the first time during his recent visit home.
